the sun may not burn as bright

and hands hold

soft kisses

I love guitars, black hair

and silence

has anyone ever moved like you?

Cars still drive and voices talk

  and you slip slowly away

people do what people do

transmit

their love through

thought

and rage and quiet.

Love is a lonely journey

you stand so close

watching me break

into small pieces

of hope and dreams

and sadness

There is nothing now

but talk and hurt.

All love gone, wrung out like

blue light from darkening skies.

Hopes and dreams changed,

like coats and shoes and

English weather.

No whispers when the sky is big and

the nights cold.

All those sweet touches now

just stuff, wasted stuff.

We avoid smiles and

eyes and hello's

There was a time when we ran as the

rain fell, Your yellow dress

clinging to you like all

my dreams. You shivered

in my arms and my heart

beat in my throat.

Later we ran as

shells fell, hard like metallic

memories.

Your blood sticks  my

shirt to my body

You are  shaking in my arms

my heart is beating  in my throat.

The false light, inadequate heat

cocoon me.

Outside London Still Rains.

Pools of wet night light

Two People.

Him.

 Gestures with something, red like

this big ugly carriage

Her.

Elfin

achingly sad.

The diesel growl. The shuffling mass.

Her small hand strikes his face.

Shock.

Him.

Me.

Her.

A rose red as her lips, this bus, falls

from hand to dirty rainbow streaked pavement.

He turns.

fades into the night.

We slip reluctantly into

real life.

She, picks up a small broken

flower and crushes it too her

like a lost child.

Between Ireland and the rest of the world

lies the independent state of Liverpool.

800 years young.

Much maligned by people yet to visit,

to be

intoxicated.

Buildings as strong as her history

Beautiful as only great vision can create 

stand on a river that bled an empire.

Sent her children across oceans 

to live and die with 

sails and humour and guitars.

800 years old

 dreaming of 800 more.

my Snauschers small black nose

The memory of my Grandmother's smiles.

Anticipating kick off

Drinking cold beer with my brother 

and hearing him laugh out-loud.

The memory of talking with my best friend

about our lives when we were eight years old.

My mother's voice across thousands of miles.

Driving so fast the universe blurs

Her eyes were a darker shade of sadness.

She floated through my dreams into my bed.
